"why so upset beans?" one might ask...

weather you like it or not, im goin to tell you why...

1996 Volkswagen Jetta GLS was purchased by ME.... price..$300

body = good shape

get the keys.....turn ignition... fail.

starter needs replaced...............starter for A FUCKING GERMAN car....... $160

luckily the one i took off was still under warenty (yea i spelled it wrong.. fuck you)

get a new one.....yeah... the starter.. its held in place BY THE SAME BOLTS THAT HOLD THE ENGINE IN PLACE!!!!

fuckin STUPID!!

whatever........ got it done yanno...

ok.. fine...

get it back to my place... cool.. now i gotta clean out the previous owners junk.. (bought it 'as is')

and just for fun... ill start it and run it every now and then to get the cobwebs out yanno.... (car sat for about 4 months before i got it)

apparently, thats a bad idea........ NOW i got OIL leaking out of some fuckin sensor at the top of the block....... AND i got coolant leaking like a MOTHA from some pipe/flange/hose/doo-dad that goes into the heads

here is the best part.... im not mechanically-stupid... ive done lots of my own work on cars before.. and while im not considered an 'expert' i can do more then most with an engine...

but not this one......... no........know why? THE FUCKING GERMANS!!!

gah!

oh yeah... one other thing.. driving it back to my place.. found an interesting fact.... yanno 5th gear? .......yeah....... not there....... fucking gone..... put it in 5th and you might as well leave it in neutral.....fuck it... 4 gears is good enough

Beaner, as I am also German, I find it repulsive that you blame Germans on the car.

Actually, I might be difficult, but you could end up with a good car, for less than a couple O' grand. And for a $160 Starter, not bad, I have seen $300 starters. Wanna talk about bass ackward cars, check out the 1994 Formula Firebird. To change the plugs & wires, you have to remove the water pump to get to the distrubuter, and get behind the firewall to get to the back 2 cylinders. I had one, and even with me purchasing my own plugs & wires, still cost me $688.

I also had a Buic Regal, Gran Sport. To change the rear plugs, you had to remove the rear motor mounts, and rock the motor forward to get to them.

Technically, wouldn't every other car be put together backwards, since the Germans invented the things?

Kinda like how the brits complain about everyone else in the world except for their dumb commonwealth driving on the wrong side of the road. Hint: if the country that invented it does it one way, any other way is the "wrong" way.

I thanked VW for turning me into a professional mechanic, when I really didn't want to be. Starters, breather hoses, rocker cover gaskets, oil sensors, the list is endless. Trust me, once you own an old VW, you'll NEVER stop working on it. Even if you srtipped the fucker bare and filled it with aftermarket parts, it'd still find a way of taking a dump in the middle of town at rush hour & filling up with smoke. Tried and tested

I took German as a language elective in high school. Our teacher was a real German and she had quite a temper. When we would misbehave (which was everyday) she would swear at us in German and throw textbooks at the walls and out the door into the hall. All I remember now are the swear words.

I was surprised to read this post. I owned a Jetta for years and never had a problem with it. Regular oil changes and changed the tires once...great car, I'd own another.
